This diploma course has been designed SPECIFICALLY for those who want to start their own business, or want to include electrolysis as a key treatment in their beauty salon. With a heavy emphasis on skill rather than just clocking in hours of case studies, you will learn how to safely perform electrolysis on even the toughest hairs. The diploma course comprises:
4 days of theory and practical tuition
Work experience (optional) and mock assessment (optional)
Coursework to be completed in your own time
Portfolio of case studies to be completed over 3-4 months in your own time
Final written exam and practical assessment booked when your portfolio is completed
Upon completion you will be entered for the
BIAE entrance exam free (first attempt only)

Diploma course for beginners

For the written exam and practical assessment:

The 5 layers of cells in the epidermis
Main components of the hair follicle, including the papilla, hair sheaths and matrix
3 stages of the growth cycle for the hair
What needs to be destroyed by electrolysis to successfully treat the hair
The main glands of the endocrine system and their main functions
How the circulatory system works, including the 3 main components of blood, the purpose of the lymphatic system and the main functions of both
Why contraindications have to identified before treatment and what to do about absolute and non-absolute contraindications.
The difference between disinfecting and sterilizing.
Some examples of bacteria or germs (including spores and viruses)
How to prepare your work area, equipment and yourself before treatment.
How to prepare the client for treatment
The two types of needle used for electrolysis and how to choose the right size
Why needles need to be disposed of safely
Aftercare advice
The 3 methods of electrolysis and how they work
How to insert a probe correctly and why this is important
Common overtreatment signs and how they happen
How to carry out a consultation and decide on a treatment plan

Additional coursework to cover business topics, health and safety and customer service.

Portfolio of at least 30 treatments to be carried out in your own time.
